I really love the Beatles.
I learned how
to play the acoustic (and later the electric) guitar by
playing easy guitar songs that the Beatles wrote. It was
amazing to me simple the chord structures were for so many
of their songs given how melodic and appealing their songs
were. So what do I mean when I say easy guitar songs? I
would say no more than 4 chords involved and the song can
sound good enough without making the chords all fancy.
Here’s
an example of one of The Beatles easy guitar songs with

Now, I don’t
know if you’ve ever heard that song before, but I’m
telling you right now that it rocks hard. This song is timeless.
It could easily be done by a contemporary artist and be
a hit. Plenty of artists throughout the years have reprised
what were actually very easy guitar songs by The Beatles.
Personally, I almost always prefer the originals.

OK, I know, there

easy guitar song that you can go to a party with and be
a hit. You know why? Because people love to sing along and
lots of people know the lyrics to this song by heart.
The reason I
had the determination to practice as much as I did when
I first started learning how to play guitar was that I focused
on learning easy guitar songs that I really, really liked.
So go to your local music store and ask for a music book
filled with songs by one or more of your favorite musicians
and tell the clerk that you want to buy a music book with
basic chords for beginners. Then, before you buy, look through
the books to see if the songs you want to learn really are
easy guitar songs or not. Good luck!
